Divine support to Today’s most pressing issue – Marriage

Sri Taponayagi Ambal sametha Sri Varthamaneswarar Temple at Segal (Sri Swayamvara Parvathi Temple) near Thiruthuraipoondi

While compiling temples for my week long Thiruvarur Trip last year, I accidentally came across a google map marking called Swayamvara Parvathi Temple near Thiruthuraipoondi. I heard of Swayamvaraparvathi Manthram, Swayamvara parvathi homam but I never heard of a Swayamvara Parvathi amman temple in my so many temple searches and visits. So I grew in curiosity but unfortunately, excepting for that google map marking, not a single line of info about the temple was found anywhere in the net. So, during my Thiruvarur trip, while I was staying at Thiruthuraipoondi, I made it a point to visit the temple. Initially I thought of it as a half an hour visit but finally ended up in a 3 hours visit to the temple.

Today, when there are so many cunning enemies around us in the job of destroying our cultural, family and human values in the form of movies, TV serials (like Sun TV and Radhika Sarathkumar serials), talk shows (like Gopinath – in a talk show discussing whether our Thirumangalyam is a holy icon or a female slavery) etc., nowadays it has become a real nightmare when we start the process of seeking a marriage alliance for our son/daughter. Only the divine support can help and guide us properly to give us a good alliance.

1. Swayamvara Parvathi mantra is one which gives us divine support in this task
2. Swayamvara Parvathi homam is another one which can be conducted in our houses for the same (I did it for my son as well as daughter)

Even if your son/daughter is in the top of the list in terms of beauty, brilliance, money etc., only the divine can help us in ending up at the correct alliance (after all, we make so many mistakes in life). In the same line, while I was in the process of seeking an alliance for my son, I was delighted to find a Swayamvara Parvathi Temple at a place called Segal, around 7 kms SouthEast of Thiruthuraipoondi. Possibly this is the only one in Tamilnadu!

Legend:
Once Lord Shiva and Ambal had an argument about the merits of snakes and Swamy asked Her to take human birth to know the merits of snakes. Here, the main Ambal Sri Tapovana Nayagi is in tapas mode with Rudraksha mala and a gendi in hands. When Her tapas was fulfilled, Swamy came in a Red Rishabam and embraced Her. When Swamy asked for a boon, the Ambal, having suffered the separation from Swamy, asked Him to bless Her devotees with re-union of separated couples and for the early marriage of boys and girls with good brides and grooms. So Swamy and Ambal here are blessing the devotees accordingly.

Since Swamy came in Red Rishabam, the Nandi in front of the main deity Sri Varthamaneswarar and the main deity Himself are of red stones and that’s the reason for the name of the place as Segal.

Sri Arulmozhi Vinayagar:
The Vinayagar is very beautiful & stylish and is in a sideways looking posture in Uchishta Ganapathy form. He was installed by Rajaraja Chola and is in his name as Sri Arulmozhi Vinayagar. During abhishegam when water is poured on His head it flows out through His trunk.

Since the Ambal came here to know the merits of snakes, this is also a Ragu-Kethu parihra sthalam. There is Sri Naganatha Swamy with Ambal Sri Soundarya Nayagi and a Nagar in the Vayu corner of the temple.

Sri Swayamvara Parvathi Ambal is present separately within the main (Sri Varthamaneswarar) shrine.

The Temple before renovation:

The temple is a sort of one stop solution for all marriage related prayers. It has 1) mainly Sri Swayamvara Parvathi Ambal for marriage prayers, 2) a Ragu-Kethu parihra sthalam with Sri Naganatha Swamy and Ambal Sri Soundarya Nayagi along with a Nagar in the Vayu corner of the temple 3) Perumal shrine and 4) regular Navagraha shrine. Sri Gnanaskandan, the main Gurukkal, can analyse the horoscope as well. So, you can send the horoscope thro’ whatsapp to him and ask for his guidance. Normally, he will suggest simple prayers like abhishegam for Swayamvara Parvathi ambal which you can conduct by sending money if you are not in a position to go personally. He will send the abhishega videos and the prasads to you.

Sri Ranganathar Temple at Aadhirangam:
On the way to Segal from Thiruthuraipoondi, there is Aadhi rangam where there is Sri Ranganathar Temple, an abhimana sthalam, with a beautiful temple pond in front. There is more popular and more ancient Aadhi rangam in the Thiruvannamalai-Thirukkovilur route and so not to be confused with this.

  2. Dear Sir, One more pressing issue in the society is Divorce. As society is getting modern and getting inclined towards western culture, divorce cases are in the rise.
Two good Parihara sthalams for the couple to get rid of their misunderstandings and to remain in their married life are
    1) Sammohana Gopalan shrine found within the Kalyana Prasanna Venkatramana Perumal temple in Mohanur, Nammakal District and
    2) Sakthivanesvara Temple (சக்திவனேஸ்வரர் கோயில்)located in a small village called Thirusakthimutram, near Patteswaram, Kumbakonam

These kind of prathanai sthalams / Parihara sthalams will surely help them to move in correct direction in fixing alliance. Our anchestors rightly understood that these kind of future issues may arise in the society and rightly left behind them these kind of temples for us.
